Good Morning “Blessed With Daily Bread.” Today we are in 1 Samuel 21.
David is running for his life… literally. In these moments he most likely feels all alone, and abandon by everyone. You ever feel all alone in your troubles? Nevertheless; God is with him continuing to provide for his daily needs - as He is with the believer.
Every Sabbath 12 loaves of bread (Showbread or Shewbread), 1 for every tribe of Israel were laid out on the Table in the Holy Place of the Tabernacle. The bread acknowledged God as their provider and also served as demonstration of their Thanksgiving. The bread was to remain for the week, at such time it was removed and replaced with fresh on the next Sabbath. The discarded bread could be eaten by the Priests.
In Matthew 12:1-8 Jesus refers to this occasion, in which God provided for the needs of David in an unconventional way.
David may have reasoned that between he and the priest he provided for the needs of his men and himself. May we never miss the fact that God is the great provider and sustainer. Through external sources - He provides! May we always recognize THAT and give thanks, praise and glory where it’s due.
Don’t miss the picture here. Jesus quoting Deuteronomy said
“…, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
God provides the daily bread. We don’t have to worry about that part. Instead we can concentrate on feasting on The Word of God!
Love you all! Dig in!
