Good Morning “Those Who Seek Gods Favor.” Today we are in 1 Samuel 18.
What a stark contrast we see in this chapter.
David is faithful, humble and honorable. Johnathan has very similar traits himself. Jonathan and David are tight! Jonathan even gives David his Princely garments and battle tools. This was absolutely unheard of. The Lord has knit together quite the friendship.
In stark contrast much of chapter 18 consists of Saul plotting to kill David. The bait, his daughters. The chapter doesn’t mention the fact that David should already be married to Saul’s daughter. He should also be rich and tax free! Why? That’s what Saul promised to whoever killed Goliath. 3 times this was reiterated to David… remember? (1 Samuel 17:25-30)
Saul is a piece of work. Not only does he not follow through on his promise, but he’s actually attempting to rope David in with his daughters once again. Here’s his problem… he’s battling against God and “The man after Gods own heart”. Talk about an impossible battle to win.
Our hearts determine what side we are on. Our heart either turns Gods hand against us, or positions us for His blessing and favor!
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Romans 8:28, 31 NIV
God is for David - he finds success in everything he touches. Saul… just the opposite. What side do you want to be on?
Love you all! Dig in!
