1 Samuel 17

Good Morning “Giant Killers”.  Today we are in 1 Samuel 17.

David and Goliath!  One of the most retold stories in all of Scripture!  There are so many applications in this story for us… I’m not sure where to start and end.

First let’s put to rest the argument that a sling and a stone could not kill a man.  Many tests have been done using recreated ancient slings and stones.  In the right proficient hands, they have proven to be lethal with velocity upwards of 100mph.  They can pierce flesh, break bone etc.

- David was very young.  Most believe in the 13-15 year old range.  Ever think you’re too young to be used by God?  Think again.  “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faithand in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12

- God prepared David for this moment - in his role as shepherd boy.  He had already perfected the sling and stone, killing lion and bear.  God does the equipping - we are to demonstrate the faith (Hebrews 13:20-21)!

- God uses trials to prepare and equip us for the next thing (James 1:2-4)

- Davids faith is clearly in The Lord.  Not his own power or equipping.  He recognizes it’s all God.  He knows if God said it, circumstances don’t matter!  Goliath cannot win a battle against God!  David demonstrates this when all of Israel’s armies missed it!  God is faithful to His promises (Hebrews 10:23)

God is beginning already to set David up as king.  What kind of Giants are you facing?  They are no match for Our God!  See what other applications you can find!

Love you all!  Dig in!
