Good Morning “Savior Seekers”. Today we are in 1 Samuel 12.
Watch any news program, or scroll the internet news sources and a world full of problems is what you’ll find. The US is center stage with our own mess. Among the top: AntiSemitism, Border Policy, Everyone’s a Victim, Foreign Policy, War, Natural Disasters… oh yeah, and let’s not forget the Economy. Depending who you listen to each of these issues vary in degree of seriousness. I mean our economy is either in the toilet or it’s the best it’s been in 20 years.
Who will help us? This candidate promises to save us from that. The other promises to save is from the this. Honestly it takes me back to Eaton Middle School Student Counsel Elections where we listened to potential Middle School candidates promise to save us from our world at EMS. “Elect me and I’ll get pop machines in here!” “Elect me and I’ll make sure we get better school lunches!” “Elect me and I’ll see that we get longer breaks, shorter school day!” Ha ha, these were just a few promises I still remember to this day. The problem was, any one with a reasonable mind knew the candidates had NO power to bring about the outlandish promises they were making.
In this chapter Samuel reminds Isreal of their rebellion. Many times, they turned from The One True God and His system of obedience. As result of their disobedience their world was in disarray. They sought a savior, a King - that was really no savior at all! ”“But when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites was moving against you, you said to me, ‘No, we want a king to rule over us’—even though the Lord your God was your king.“
1 Samuel 12:12 NIV They put their trust, their faith in Saul to deliver them, protect them, and turn their world around without recognizing that he was TRULY powerless to do anything apart from the hand of God. They already had The King!
If you listen to people talk, especially secular influencers, the same type of thinking emerges. The message is loud and clear “We need a savior!” ABSOLUTELY we do… but not quite in the way they mean. We don’t need “a savior”, we need The Savior - Jesus! ANYONE else is no savior at all - they are POWERLESS apart from Him!
Without the nation of Israel repenting, and turning back to God, there was no promised salvation coming. Guess what… on both the individual and the national levels; the physical and the spiritual, without our repentance and turning back to the God of all creation - there is no promised salvation coming to us either! “He is The Way, The Truth, and The Life…” John 14:6. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says it all plainly! Also check Psalm 146:3-7! Apart from the Grace of God we’re all (including presidents) powerless to do ANYTHING!
Love you all! Dig in! Seek The Only Savior!
