Philippians 4

Good Morning “Appliers of Paul’s Teaching.”   Today we finish up Philippians with chapter 4.  Philippians 4 is packed some of the most repeated and retaught Biblical principles.    Let’s have a look.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬-‭5‬
When we focus on the incredible grace of God, our salvation through Jesus and the offer of a real intimate relationship with the God of all creation as a result, all of our many gifts and blessings, every breath we breathe and every beat of our heart - of course we would rejoice.  When we focus on our stuff, and the failings of a broken world rejoicing is lacking - it’s never enough.


“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭
Once again we are reminded that Peace is a function of the Holy Spirit living in us.  Peace is a Fruit of the Spirit!  Anxiousness is not of God.  Maybe you’ve read this saying on Grandmas tapestry: “Know God, Know Peace.  No God, No Peace.”  I can personally attest to the Power of the Holy Spirit to grant peace in the midst of severe situations where having peace is crazy… “transcends understanding,” and in that, the overwhelming peace guards your hearts and minds from non Biblical thoughts - fears, what if’s


“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all things through him who gives me strength.” Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭

Ahhh, one of the most taken out of context verses in all of Scripture.  “I can do all things through Christ” isn’t talking about winning football games, or having courage to ask a girl to Prom.  No, clearly, given the context Paul is referring to being empowered to carry on in ministry, no matter what.  He is enough!!!  Always!  He is the supplier and the source.
