Daniel 6

Good Morning “Criminals.”  Today we are in Daniel 6.

Daniel and the lions den is one of, if not THE most well known children’s story.  Let me remind you and make it clear… this is NOT just a children’s story.  Considering all that Daniel has been through, his steadfast  obedience and faith is mind blowing - and ought to be inspiring.

Despite Daniel’s faithfulness to God, and even to his work within the kingdom of Babylon - he finds himself once again facing death.

King  Darius was so pleased with Daniel he was about to place him over ALL the kingdom.  This greatly disturbed the other administrator’s and governors.  They wanted him dead, snuffed out, out of the picture -  Muerto. One problem though, Daniel was above board in every way.

So… what could they do?  They literally deceived King Darius into making a law that effectively made worshiping the One True God a crime.

Once the decree was issued, Daniel did what any of us ought to do.  He went home, opened his window as he always did, and prayed to The One True God.  In fact he continued 3 times a day, as he had before the decree.

Hang on… I thought we were always supposed to obey our authorities and the law of the land (Romans 13)?  Yes, we are… until those laws conflict with Gods Law!  For His Word is our ULTIMATE authority, ALWAYS - over ALL things!  Consider the response of Jesus followers when faced with the same dilemma… (Acts 4:18-20; 5:28-29)

Despite his distress, King Darius had to act.  Daniel ends up in the lions den, but Gods got him.  God protects, and King Darius issues a new decree.  Oh he also deals with the crooked administrators that stirred up all the trouble in the first place.  I urge you to read, or reread the chapter.  View the story with fresh eyes placing yourself in Daniel’s shoes in the context our quickly changing world.  Worshipping God in our part of world isn’t a crime… yet!  But what if it was?

If loving and worshipping God was a crime would there be enough evidence to convict you?

Love you all!  Dig in, and live It out.
