Daniel 9

Good Morning “Faithful”.  Today we are in Daniel 9.

We’ve well established Daniel was a man of incredible faith.  As we read of all that Daniel has gone through, have you wondered how and where he got such faith?  Surrounded by the sin and debauchery of Judah, how did some, like Daniel and his friends remain steadfast in their faith?  In a world so dark, how does one remain in The Light?

This chapter makes clear the source of Daniel’s strength. Check out verse 2-3.  Daniel understood the situation they were all in through The Word given through Jeremiah.  Daniel indeed knew they were getting what was coming to them because he understood Gods righteous character.  He also understood God was a God of Mercy and Grace.  He gained this understanding from The Word.  That’s what it means to meditate on The Word (Joshua 1:8).   We get to know Jesus in the same way - for He is The Word (John 1).

His understanding of God was the basis for his faithful prayer - recorded in the first part of this chapter.  In summary, Daniel was asking forgiveness, repenting for the sins of his nation Judah, and pleading with God on the basis of His mercy to restore them.

And… God swiftly answers by giving him/us  another bit of prophecy.  This time a broader view of both near term and time prophecy.  Jesus would come to save the world from their sin.  His own would crucify Him.  We see this all recorded in The New Testament (John 19, Matthew 27:32-56).

Then future prophecy we have not yet seen.  The rise of a ruler (Anti-Christ).  He will deceive the nations, appearing “good”, and broker a peace (treaty) covenant with Israel for 7 years.  This marks the beginning of the 7 years of Tribulation.  At the 1/2 way point, he breaks the treaty, reveals his true self, and sacrifices a pig on the temple. (Matthew 24:4-21, Revelation 11:3, 13:1-8)

Daniel took comfort in knowing the mercy and grace of God!  We can too!  (Roman’s 3:23, 6:23, 3:16, 5:8, 10:9, 8:1,)  Those who “know Him” will not be here to experience this prophecy (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

Love you all!  Dig in and live it out!
