Good Morning “Objects of Grace.” Today we are in chapter 37.
This chapter is a familiar one. Interpretations vary… is this a literal resurrection or simply a metaphor, a picture? If the text answers the question for us, we have no need to venture into deeper assumption for the sake is finding something undiscovered. Such endeavors seem to do more to elevate our pride than grow our maturity. To that end consider verse 11 where I believe God answers the question simply.
“Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off.’” Ezekiel 37:11 ESV
Israel, in their judgment lamented. They were scattered across lands and had forgotten Gods covenant with them (Genesis 12:2-3). They were experiencing judgment and in it overlooked that repentance and restoration was the goal, and God WOULD bring it about as He promised.
Furthermore 1 Corinthians 15 makes it clear, resurrection of the dead happens instantly not systematically as illustrated here.
No, I believe this chapter is a description of the systematic bringing back together of ALL of the remnant of Israel. The 2nd part of the chapter further makes clear the reuniting of divided Israel. In The Kingdom, they will be One, under The King of Kings for ONLY through Jesus can restoration take place. The Lord will breathe life back into a nation that is scattered, and appears dead through The Holy Spirit.
It is clear! God has not replaced Israel with the Gentile church!!! On the contrary, because of Israel’s hardening for a time, Gentiles (us) have the privilege of Salvation through Jesus (Romans 11). Why would ANYONE reject such grace?
Love you all! Dig in!
