Good Morning “Future Hopefuls.” Today we are in Daniel 7.
We may not totally know what the future holds, but we know Who holds the future. And God has shown us a glimpse of the future He holds.
We last left Daniel under the care of King Darius the Mede, around 539 BC. As chapter 7 opens we take a step back. Daniel is under the authority of the degenerate King Belshazzar, about 11 years earlier.
Daniel’s vision in this chapter moves from short term prophesy, on to apocalyptic “end times prophecy” - harkening back to Nebuchadnezzar’s statue dream in Daniel 2.
Let’s take a sec to define the characters brought to light both by Daniel’s vision, and John’s vision in Revelation. By comparing and combining the two we can determine what and who God showed Daniel.
The first three kingdoms, Babylon, Medo-Persia, and Greece are followed by the fourth power grabbing nation - the Roman Empire. It’s interesting to note how God sees these governments. “Beasts rising up out of the sea.” Sea indicates the whole of mankind like sea of people. (Revelation 13.1-2)
Then it gets future scary… 10 horns (kingdoms) rise up and a little horn (anti-Christ) rises to power for a time. Then Daniel sees coming down “The Ancient of Days” (Psalm 90:1-2), coming down from heaven. The Anti Christ and False Prophet tossed into the fire (Revelation 19:20).
Remember our basic timeline as you consider where these visions / prophecy fit:
- Church Age (now)
- True Believers Taken Up to meet Jesus in the Air (Rapture - any time now) (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, Revelation 4).
- 7 Years of Tribulation, Anti Christs rise (Another chance for unbelieving Jews and Gentiles) (Daniel 9:24-27, Jeremiah 30:7, Revelation 14)
- Jesus Returns with The Armies of Heaven (OT Believers, Raptured Saints, and Tribulation Martyrs) Satan chained (Revelation 19-20)
- Millennial Kingdom (1000 year reign of Christ
- Satan, released - deceives, rally’s the nations against Jesus battle of Gog and Magog. No battle at all (Revelation 20)
- Satan, evil tossed into the fire.
- New Jerusalem, Heaven on Earth… the rest of forever (Revelation 21).
Daniels visions together with John’s visions in Revelation, combined with the rest of Scripture - work to give us the timeline. The question is… where do you want to be while it all takes place? Me… I’m convinced I want to be with Jesus while the chaos on earth unfolds.
