Good Morning “Unwavering Friends.” Today we are in Job 6.
Eliphaz completes his rebuke of Job for the moment. He is convinced he spoke Truth despite the fact that he stated it was a “spirit” that gave him the words. Satan is a master of using Scripture improperly. We see examples of his work through the twisted teachings of some of the most popular progressive Christian movements. We see it through Eliphaz type harsh, misguided rebuke with no evidence of need for it.
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
John 10:27 NIV
Only His sheep know His voice. How can we hear, or be led if we are not under the direction of the Shepherd? Answer… we can’t. It doesn’t work like that. We don’t get to embrace Satans world and still expect God to lead us through it. Oh but Satan is glad to step in and convince us we can...
and we foolishly buy it.
Notice Job is humble. Carefully listening to his friends’ rebuke of him, not interrupting, but carefully considering… is anything he says true of me? Eliphaz finishes and Job begins his defense. Perhaps Jobs only fault is in his pity of himself - wishing he was dead. Yet… who wouldn’t in his circumstances. When he needed his friends the most, they failed him and he calls them out for it.
“Now you too have proved to be of no help; you see something dreadful and are afraid.” Job 6:21 NIV Translation… Some friends you are.
Job goes on… show me where I am wrong - point out one thing. He finishes with this:
“Is there any wickedness on my lips? Can my mouth not discern malice?” Job 6:30 NIV
You see his friends saw trouble and simply assumed judgment. They offered rebuke but saw NO evidence of sin that needed rebuking - that’s jacked up. It reflects spiritual immaturity.
Truly we must hold one another accountable. However; we must first be dialed in our relationship with Jesus, know The Word, and be able to rightly identify disobedience to it.
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Matthew 7:3-5
Love you all! Dig in!
