Amos 3

Good Morning “Recipient’s of All of Gods Love”.  Today we are in Amos 3.

An object in motion stays in motion… an object at rest stays at rest… unless something acts upon it.  Of course that statement is a simplification if Newtons First Law of Motion.

It’s also Gods point through Amos regarding His judgment upon Israel.  Amos is telling Israel about the judgment to come - BECAUSE they did something.  They rejected, forgot, discounted, distorted The Word of The Lord, embraced their flesh and sinned.

If judgment is occurring, something indeed brought it on.  That’s the point.  “When a trumpet sounds in a city, do not the people tremble? When disaster comes to a city, has not the Lord caused it?” Amos‬ ‭3‬:‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“The Lord Caused it…”  Many, with a misunderstanding of what real love, complete love, God’s love looks like - seek to defend God’s “character” because of passages like this.  I’ve had people argue, God doesn’t bring harm.  He doesn’t do the “bad” stuff, Satan does that.  God ONLY gives “good” and perfect gifts.  Thats NOT what that verse in James says.  Take a careful look (James 1:16-17).

Our perspective is off!  We have a tendency to judge what we think is good based on what we want.  When we do, we place ourselves over God determining what is best, what we “need”.  We look at everything in terms of our short time here on earth.  God sees everything from an eternal perspective.

He loves Israel too much to let her go her own way.  The same is true for us!  His Way is best!  Jesus is The Only Way (John 14:6).  All that He does is to direct His people in that manner.

Verse 6 above doesn’t stand alone.  Consider Psalm 5:4; Ecc. 7:14; Isa. 45:7; 54:16; Lam. 3:38-39.  Furthermore see Psalm 5:4; Romans 3:1-9; 9:1-29 for clarity that He has the right to do so, and cannot be charged with sin when He does.   God uses secondary (E.g. the Devil) and tertiary (E.g. the Sabeans & Chaldeans, fire from heaven, and high winds) to carry out His purposes, Job 2:3! He works in and around sinful people using them for His purposes.  Why would He use sinful people?  It’s the ONLY kind of people He has to work with (Roman’s 3:23)!

The Bible is His Word to us!  If the Bible says it will only get
worse unless we repent, then why not repent?  Why not proclaim it to those who are lost?
We get the privilege of participating!  He will do it all through us by the power of The Holy Spirit if we only submit (Romans 12:1-2, Acts 1:8, Matthew 28-18-20)

Love you all!  Dig in and live it out!
