Good Morning “Those Who Call on The Name of The Lord”. Today we are in Joel 2.
In today’s chapter we see clearly, events of 3 different time periods prophesied in the same piece of Scripture. We talked about this yesterday. Maybe these are clear to you, because we’ve already studied each. 1.) The Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem (Joel’s extended generation), 2.) the Roman destruction of Jerusalem (After Jesus’ resurrection in 70A.D.), and 3.) the coming Day of the Lord described in The Revelation. As you break this chapter down, see if you can identify each.
Each event carries the same call to repentance. Periods and events change, His message never does (Joel 2:12-14).
Don’t let anyone tell you that The God of the Old Testament is different than The God of The New (Malachi 3:6). Don’t believe OT God is just angry and full of judgment and NT God is only Grace and Mercy - winking at our sin.
Joel tells us that, even in the days of Uzziah, God was merciful, compassionate, and slow to anger. Likewise His expectation and wrath is also clear in the NT (Hebrews 12).
Additionally, don’t let anyone tell you that The Old Testament was only written for Jews (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Today’s OT passage reminds us that God has always planned to pour out His Spirit on “all humanity.” In fact, that
happened at Pentecost (Acts 2).
Note: all humanity doesn’t mean EVERYONE. It means “some” from every nation, tribe, people and tongue - (Jews and Gentiles alike) will receive The Holy Spirit through saving faith in The Messiah - Jesus (Revelation 7:9).
“And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved;...”Joel 2:32 NIV
Love you all! Dig in and live It out!
