Good Morning “Heart Deep”, today we are in Amos 5.
We pick back up right where we left off. Israel has the motions down, bringing their offerings, holding religious festivals, and even singing songs of worship. However; they are just actions. They go on oppressing the poor, living like the world, despising true justice.
They have the act down but are missing any transforming intimacy with God. He continues to warn them. Twice in this chapter alone. Their way is about to get them killed, and not just physically.
“Seek the Lord and live…”Amos 5:6a NIV
“Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.”
Amos 5:14 NIV
Notice the deception. “Then the Lord Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.” They’ve convinced even themselves that their empty sacrifices and empty worship somehow count. They claim Him as their God yet He’s about to destroy them. Why? Because they are JUST claims, It’s not real! Their hearts and lives remain in the world. There will come a day when the veil of deception will be lifted, when actions without the true heart will be exposed.
“Woe to you who long for the day of the Lord! Why do you long for the day of the Lord? That day will be darkness, not light.”
Amos 5:18 NIV
Once again, I’m reminded of Jesus words as He speaks about This Day in Matthew 7:21-23.
