Good Morning "Deep Mourners." Today we are in Job 3.
This passage is tough. Unfortunately, not tough because it's hard to understand, but because at some level we do. We’ve all experienced suffering - we live in a sinful world. With sin has come death and all that is associated with both: Sickness, disease, suffering, selfishness, hurt, pain, etc etc. We are sinful people whose bodies are falling apart. All of creation groans from within as we wait for our permanent home with The Savior (Romans 8:18-25). What's more we are inherently selfish people who routinely hurt one another.
Our hearts go out to Job. Maybe you have found yourself at the place where you wondered why you were ever born?
Thankfully we have the whole of Scripture, and The Holy Spirit to rest in. Job did not. You were created with purpose, and saved by the blood of Jesus for good work (Ephesians 2:10). God has demonstrated His faithfulness and goodness to us over and over. He promises to guide and lead us if we trust Him (Proverbs 3:5-6), that His plans for us are good (Jeremiah 29:11), even when they don't seem that way in the moment. He promises to give us peace amidst anxious times (Philippians 4:6). He promises to grow us up through the trouble and give us wisdom for understanding in the midst (James 1). If we resist the devil he will flee, if we draw near to God, He will draw near to us (James 4:7-8). He urges us through Paul to offer ourselves to Him as a living Sacrifice (Romans 12:1), He will use us as His ambassadors throughout the world (2 Corinthians 5:20, Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:18-20). As we struggle through life, stumble and fall in sin, He promises to forgive as we repent (1 John 1:9). Through it all He promises to never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
I could keep going! The Bible is full of His promises. This is what we cling to. It’s easy to understand why He gave it to us, and expects us to know it. We look at Jobs faithfulness and marvel. Imagine how much he might have been strengthened by all we have. Silly not to dive into it all.
Love you all! Dig in!
