Good Morning “Witnesses to The Kings Edict.” Today we are in Esther 8.
“Now write another decree in the king’s name in behalf of the Jews as seems best to you, and seal it with the king’s signet ring—for no document written in the king’s name and sealed with his ring can be revoked.” Esther 8:8 NIV
The nations recognized the irrevocable nature of a kings edict sealed with his signet ring. Even the king could not revoke his own edict. Why? It was believed that “the gods” moved the king, and the king was only an administrator of their will. “The gods” didn’t make mistakes. They confused “the gods” with The One True God (Proverbs 21:1).
Isn’t it interesting that although God Himself is silent throughout the book of Esther we see Him moving mightily in the background with each chapter. Xerxes was informed specifically - by The One True God. Not gods, plural - but The Only Real God! He was informed so as to ensure the protection of Gods people and ultimately the line of Jesus. Haman was simply another tool the evil one used in seeking to destroy the same. In typical irony the one who sought to honor himself was humbled and all that he had - given to the one God sought to exalt (1 Peter 5:6).
What’s in this for us? Consider the parallels between what we see here in the earthly king and The King of Kings. Our God too has decreed many things in His Word. His promises are irrevocable. His character will not allow it! If you have received Jesus payment for your sins you ARE a child of God (John 1:12-13).
Take comfort when we read:
- He has good plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11).
- He will never leave us (Isaiah 41:10, Hebrews 13:5).
- If we trust and acknowledge Him, if we’re dialed in our relationship with Him - He will make our path straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).
- There is a place for us in heaven, and Jesus will come back to get us (John 14:3).
I could go on and on. How many can you find?
Love you all! Dig in!
