Good Morning “Standers for Something - The Truth.” Today we are in Nehemiah 10.
It’s been said if you stand for nothing you’ll fall for anything. Man is that a picture of our world today? We’ve even invented new terms to describe our desire to live out our new “more aware” lives, and pressure others to the same - while cloaking it all in “tolerance”, and “live and let live” statements. Virtue Signaling”, “My Truth”, “Your Truth”, “Antiracism”, “Equity”, and “Micro Aggression” are just a few new terms. It seems as a nation we easily adopt and embrace anything that comes our way… except the REAL ABSOLUTE TRUTH. The Word of God.
Before Judah could rebuild the actual walls of Jerusalem they needed to rebuild their “spiritual walls” by repenting, seeking The Word and falling on their face in prayer - as they turned back to God. Now before houses could be rebuilt within those walls, the “homes” of Jerusalem had to be well established through knowledge of Gods Word and National and personal confession. They had to be once more, “set apart” unto God. Fully and first most committed to Him above all else. Observing the ordinances of The Law demonstrated that.
As Jesus prayed to The Father He acknowledged we live in this world, yet ought not be of it.
“I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.” John 17:14-19 NIV
Paul reiterates this idea in Romans 12:2.
If seeking to be liked by everyone and accepted by all is at the top of our list - we endanger ourselves. We’re easily drawn in - conformed (1 Corinthians 15:33).
Consider again The Words of Jesus. “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.” John 15:18-20 NIV
Being Holy means to be “consecrated to” or “set apart”. Set apart - naturally means not a part of. We too are to be Holy, (set apart) from the world but to Him. “but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.””
1 Peter 1:15-16 NASB1995
Love you all! Dig in!
