2 Chronicles 26

Good Morning “Humbly Still Standing”.  Today we are in 2 Chronicles 26.

We live in a self focused, I’m proud of myself society.  We all struggle in this area - to a point. We even see events like “Pride Parades”, “Pride Clothing”, some celebrate “Pride Month”.  Some divisions of modern psychology teach us to learn to be proud of ourselves and our accomplishments.  There’s a problem though… that kind of thinking is directly opposed to Scripture.

Pride first sets us up as judge of what is really good and praise worthy.  It then assumes there is something we’ve accomplished on our own, something about us to be proud of.  Scripture in fact tells us that it all comes from God - every good and perfect gift from above.  Every opportunity, accomplishment, dollar, talent, gift, blessing, where we live, even our breath - from Him.  To be proud of one’s self is to fail to acknowledge the source of our blessing and assume credit that belongs to God.  We act as our own god assuming we blessed ourselves.  Check it out:

“For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Today we read about king Uzziah.  He started out a rockstar for The Lord.  “But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the Lord his God…” 2 Chronicles‬ ‭26‬:‭16‬

He becomes so arrogant he strolls into the temple to burn incense - something only the priests were allowed to do. In the end God strikes him with leprosy.  God doesn’t play along with our delusion.

What about you?  Who or what decides if you or your success is praiseworthy?  Who gets the credit for your accomplishments?  Who do you give credit to?  As we pray for blessing, as we pray for success - are we ready to humbly handle it?

“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16‬:‭18‬ ‭

“Whoever exalts himself will behumbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Mathew 23:12

Love you all!  Dig in!
