Good Morning “Easy Yoke Carriers.”  Today we are in Jeremiah 27.
In chapter 24 we saw clearly that God still had a plan for those He took into Babylonian Exile. Their 70 years were meant to change their hearts, bring them to their knees, bring them back to God! He was more concerned when their eternity than their present comfort.
In today’s chapter we get an inside look at what that looked like practically speaking.
“But if any nation will bow its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will let that nation remain in its own land to till it and to live there, declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 27:11 NIV. What was the point? Stick with me…
The people were lost because they had rejected The Word of The Lord and followed false prophets and teachers. We have the same thing going on today (2 Peter 2:1-3).
Since Judah had followed the counsel of false prophets and rejected God’s Word, the Lord brought Nebuchadnezzar to rule over them. This was so they could know the difference between the “yoke” of the Lord and that of a pagan ruler (Jeremiah 27:5-7).
Knowing this piece of Israel’s history brings context to Jesus’ statement in Matthew 11:25-30.
Serving Jesus leads to peace & deliverance. God chose Nebuchadnezzar to rule for a season, but Jesus is Lord for all eternity, so whose “yoke” would you prefer?
Love you all! Dig in!
