Good Morning “Covenant Keepers.” Today we are in Jeremiah 11.
Gods message to Judah and Jerusalem is clear. Obey Gods Word, keep your Covenant and be blessed. Forget My Word and serve other gods and be cursed.
Their rebellion runs a stark contrast to Psalm 1:1-2 “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.”
Why was Judah/Jerusalem facing such imminent destruction? It’s simple really… they had turned away from - forsaken God’s Word.
Their turn may have been a little slower than the Northern Kingdom of Israel, who at the hands of the Assyrians went straight into idolatry.
Judah simply began redefining priorities in worship. Gods Word was first simply intermingled with ideas and philosophies of The World. They embraced things that sounded good, and fed their flesh. Slowly Gods Word had less and less of a place in their guidance and worship. They began to place even higher value on worldly teachings until The Word of The Lord was pretty much out. What happens then? Gods clear standard is out. Without The Word of God articulating Gods expectations and standard for us… there is none.
If this sounds familiar… it should. Without careful adherence to Gods Word each one does what they believe is “right” in their own minds. Their teachers even teach it. Doesn’t that describe the state of the nation and even parts of The Church we find ourselves amidst today?
Judah knew better. Like us, they had the Law, and The Prophet’s. We know better too. We have the Holy Spirit (John 16:8-9), the complete Word of God and no excuse. (Deuteronomy 6:1-7, John 14:15, Luke 11:28, James 1:22).
We can’t live out The Word of God, if we don’t know It. Love you all! Dig in!
