Isaiah 50

Good Morning “Beneficiaries.”  Today we are in Isaiah 50.

Inspired of God, with the voice of Jesus, Isaiah pens the words of this chapter as if He is there in the present time. It appears, however; this chapter is intended for Judah to read during their captivity in Babylon some 150 years later.  In short… this is still Jesus talking as we saw last chapter.

He begins by answering Judah’s plea for rescue from their captivity.  They no doubt felt abandoned by their God, but Jesus makes it clear… He never left (“divorced”) them.  Judah is in captivity by choice, their sin and rebellion. Jesus was always there, and had all the power to deliver them from their sin, and bless them, yet they chose otherwise.

Sounds much like our world today doesn’t it?  We all sin.  In so doing we push Jesus away, when He has provided all we need to reject sin through the Holy Spirit in us (Romans 6:6-7, Galatians 2:20, James 4:7-8).

Many take it to the extreme.  They live lives filled with indulgence after indulgence, all the while empty, hurting and lost.  Jesus is there.  His offer for so much more still stands!  Yet, they reject Him, suffer without hope, and wonder why their choices don’t net peace and joy.  Know Jesus, know peace.  No Jesus, no peace.  The same can be said for all of the “Fruit of The Spirt” (Galatians 5:22-23).  Put simply, one cannot expect the benefits of a relationship with Jesus while simultaneously pushing Him away.

It’s interesting that we are first reminded that Jesus is always there, and promises strength and care… then we are reminded of the cost to provide it.  Isaiah moves to record prophecy regarding the future sufferings of Jesus, still through the voice of Jesus. Although salvation, and all that comes through it is a “free gift” to us (Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5), it cost Jesus dearly.

Someone had to pay for our sin.  He paid it ALL (Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, Colossians 2:13-14). Why would anyone push Him away in exchange for that which is empty (Romans 10:9, 8:1)

Love you all!  Dig in!
