Isaiah 46

Good Morning “No More Weariness.”  Today we are in Isaiah 46.

Babylon was always destined to fall.  Although God used her for a time, to get Israel’s (Judah at this time) attention, Babylon’s’ gods were empty, powerless.  Furthermore Babylon was weary, and tired.  Worship of false gods is exhausting.  Think of it like this, when we put our trust in other things before God, we must constantly convince ourselves the thing we worship is enough.  It’s like trying to maintain a lie, in fact it is.  If only subconsciously, we know it’s empty… convincing ourself takes its toll.

God through Isaiah addresses this Truth… “Bel bows down, Nebo stoops low; their idols are borne by beasts of burden. The images that are carried about are burdensome, a burden for the weary.” Isaiah‬ ‭46‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV

Like Israel we too make gods / idols of all kinds of things: Governments, leaders, institutions, ourselves, our advancement, our jobs, our talents, our money our fame, friends even families, beliefs, ideals - you name it.  Our world and our lives have no shortage of things that offer power, strength, protection, provision, belonging…

However; it is only God through Jesus who truly can provide any of that.  He is The Way The Truth and The Life, NO ONE gets to God but through Him (John 14:6).  The Truth of God His existence, power and His Law and standard is written on our hearts (Romans 1:18-32, Romans 2:14-15).  Convincing ourselves of anything other requires some work, exhausting work.  Work that cannot continue indefinitely, the evidence of which can surface as defensiveness, violence, the exhibition of evil…

There is a much better way!
Jesus: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Why are we burdened?) Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬-‭30‬ ‭NIV‬‬

It is good for us to ask the Lord to reveal those things in our lives to which we have ascribed worship and honor, attributes that belong only to the Lord. Once revealed, we must give up, put those “idols” in their proper place and restore worship to Him only. As enticing as some worldliness may seem, it only ends horribly.

Love you all!  Dig in!
