Good Morning “Faithful Brides”. Today we are in Isaiah 34.
Through Chapters 34-35 Isaiah gives us a picture of the universal judgment of the wicked surrounding the “day of the Lord” and the endless joy of the redeemed, portrayed in terms of the “flowering of the desert” chapter 35.
The portrayal of the “day of the Lord” focuses (initially at least in 34) on the negative side: it is “…a day of vengeance, a year of retribution…”
His fury is fueled at least in part by the way the nation’s have turned on Israel! “For the Lord has a day of vengeance, a year of retribution, to uphold Zion’s cause.” Isaiah 34:8 NIV
Revelation gives us more detail of the fulfillment of the worst time the world will ever know (Revelation 6, 8-9, 16-18)- prophesied by Isaiah here! Even within the judgment, God displays His heart of Grace! Every opportunity is given! Throughout it all, God makes sure that The Truth of The Salvation through Jesus, is proclaimed so that anyone who has ears to hear might be saved (Revelation 7, 11:3-12, 14:6). Ultimately God judges the nations and even the earth its self (Revelation 19, Isaiah 34).
Israel forgot Gods Covenant was two sided. We serve a jealous God. His Holy, Loving Nature dictates that He will move within His chosen people to punish transgression, to discipline them unto greater holiness, and to purge evil from His people.
The Truth is that God’s saving work, the bringing of His people into a covenant of grace, was never intended to induce an attitude of moral complacency. As we saw yesterday, our attitude should be one of determined ambition - to be holy - to obey God’s Word. Given that He gave us everything, what ought we give in return (Romans 12:1).
In disobedience we ought to expect rebuke and punishment - if the disobedience hard-heartedly continues. God loves His people and will never forsake them (Hebrews 13:5), but He will chastise us when we fall into sin (Hebrews 12:4-13).
If that seems harsh, consider this…
If He is truly our Bridegroom, shouldn’t we be faithful brides?
God keeps His Word: He is both faithful to judge and faithful to save. How would we choose Him to be faithful toward us?
Love you all! Dig in!
