Good Morning “Good Trees”. Today we are in Isaiah 33.
“Woe to you, destroyer, you who have not been destroyed! Woe to you, betrayer, you who have not been betrayed! When you stop destroying, you will be destroyed; when you stop betraying, you will be betrayed.” Isaiah 33:1 NIV
Who is the destroyer Isaiah opens with? Remember, through Isaiah God is giving us a picture of during and after details of both Assyrias siege of Jerusalem and the future parallel of the Anti-Christ’s siege of Jerusalem. The context following makes it clear Isaiah is still referring to the Millennial Kingdom here.
“The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with his justice and righteousness.”
Isaiah 33:5 NIV
What we see contrasted as we continue to read on is the night and day difference between the experience of the believer “Messianic Jew”, and Gentile, and the one who despite Satans removal - still rejects the Messiah.
“The sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling grips the godless: “Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?” Those who walk righteously and speak what is right, who reject gain from extortion and keep their hands from accepting bribes, who stop their ears against plots of murder and shut their eyes against contemplating evil—”
Isaiah 33:14-15 NIV
Notice once again the definer of those who TRULY BELIEVE. They reject sin and are obedient. We are constantly reminded that although our good works and obedience don’t save us (Ephesians 2:8-10)… they do demonstrate we are saved.
We must absolutely reject any progressive movement that seeks to separate the expectation of obedience and salvation. The two are absolutely connected. True love of Jesus and His love in us demonstrated by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is transformative. No transformation - no love.
Compare the very the Words of Jesus, with Isaiah’s prophecy:
“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate (Holy Spirit) to help you and be with you forever—“ John 14:15-17NIV
“Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” John 14:21NIV
“A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”
Matthew 7:18-20 NIV
““Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” Matthew 7:21-23 NIV
Continue reading Matthew 7:24- and you will find the key is living out the Word of God.
Love you all! Dig in!
