Psalm 102

Good Morning “Reconciled.”  Today we are in Psalm 102.

The Psalmist begins here by pleading with God to stay His hand.  Because of Gods wrath (vs 10) the Psalmist and likely his people, suffer horribly as he nears the end of his days.  Notice at the midpoint of the Psalm his attention turns to Gods promises.  The Psalmist knew.  He knew what was required to remain in good standing with The Lord yet he apparently went his own way.  Big lesson there.

The Psalmist believes there will come a time when God will show His people mercy, extend Grace and restore Zion (Jerusalem).  The writer of Hebrews clearly attributes this work to Jesus as he parallels Hebrews 1:10-12 to Psalm 102:25-27.

Yes this Psalm is a shadow of The coming Savior Jesus, The Messiah, who will take and drink Gods wrath on Himself for the sins of the world (Romans 6:23).

Let’s consider some more parallels in this Psalm:

As The Psalmist acknowledged the wrath of God upon his sin… we to ought to have a proper fear of The Lord as it relates to our sin.  He disciplines those He loves, and its far from fun (Hebrews 12:4-13).

The Psalmist recognized the only hope for him and his city was God (Jesus).  Same, same… our only hope for salvation and reconciliation is Jesus (John 14:6).  Believing and receiving Jesus’ finished work on The Cross is The ONLY Way!  We can’t do it ourselves (Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 10:9).

God promised to one day rebuild Zion from the ruins.  Jesus is building His church through ruined broken people who humbly come to Him repentant (Galatians 2:20, 2 Corinthians 5:17).

God's mercy set free those doomed to die (102:20). Jesus' blood redeems us who are doomed to die for our sins apart from Him.

There are more parallels… see if you can find them.
