Good Morning “Freed Men and Women.” Today we’re in Galatians 4.
Paul continues to address the Galatians. The Galatian believers were Gentiles, confused by the Judaizers and beginning to add the “Law” to their Christian faith. Paul is saying that the Law was just as useless for attaining right standing before God as their former lives in pagan idolatry. They were trying to mesh Christianity with old Judean Customs. The Galatians were also known for worshiping false Gods and tended to return back to them. It seems silly to go back.
“Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God—or rather are known by God—how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?” Galatians 4:8-9 NIV
They were just plain twisted up in what they were believing and living. We see the same sort of thing don’t we? We too have plenty of gods we worship. Maybe not like theirs but we have the god of success, money, sports, maybe even our work. Remember anything we put before Him, including other people becomes an idol or false God to us. The offer of salvation through Jesus and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is so much GREATER!!! He frees us from the bondage of sin! Why would we trade Him for emptiness and bondage?
There is so much more to life and eternity! Do not listen to the world around you!
“Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”
