Good Morning “Word of God Eaters.” Today we are in Nahum 3.
World leaders come and go. Governments and empires rise and fall with their people in tow… all by Gods hand (Daniel 2:21).
Nahum gives us a picture of once repentant Nineveh and just how far she had fallen. As we read of her rampant prostitution, sorcery and witchcraft so egregious that it drew in and enslaved other nations, and their peoples - we shudder. We might even think, man… they deserved what they got. Today’s chapter tells of the inevitable end of such nations, along with all who follow in their corruption.
“I’m sure glad that’s not us! I’m glad America has it all together. Consider the greatest cities in America. At least our state is dialed.” It’s easy to pass the buck, point the finger… but let’s take inventory as we look in the mirror.
Colorado was among the states who lead the legal gambling, and marijuana charge. Boosting our tourism, drawing in those from other states and even nations. One might say enslaving them with our addictive offerings. We were among the first to make legal and affirm same sex marriage, transgender surgeries for all ages and most recently a move to legalize prostitution. Our legislators have even talked of actual bills presented to abolish the age of consent - effectively decriminalizing Pedophilia. Worship of self, worship of all things, worship of anything both separate from and commingled with worship of the One True God is seen throughout our state and our country. Are we much different? We’re hanging on by a thread!
In the words of Nahum: we must WAKE UP!! Awakening always precedes revival.
Like God told the prophet Ezekiel, we too must “eat” The Word of God (Ezekiel 3:3)! Read our Bible. Savor its sweetness. Our eyes must be opened to God and (ultimately)to our sinful selves. Yes, it will sour our stomachs, but the restoration that comes from its knowledge is something for which we will be eternally grateful. Hence, we are compelled to share it with others so that they, too, might escape the certain coming judgment.
Love you all! Dig in and live it out!
