Good Morning “Evenly Yoked”. Today we are in 2 Corinthians 6.
Remember 1 Corinthians 15:33… “Don’t be deceived bad company corrupts good intentions / morals.” Get this principle… Biblically we are NOT strong enough in the midst of corruptive pressure. So we must be wise. Thus it matters who we spend our time with and what we spend our time doing. It has an effect on us… believe it or not, THATS the truth.
In this chapter Paul revisits this concept with a warning. Who we marry, unite, even join together with in business matters.
“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14 NIV
He is NOT saying have no relationship with, but do not be “yoked” or tied to… On the surface that seems kinda separatist, but stop and consider this. That is exactly what Paul calls us to do in verse 17: “Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE,” says the Lord! ‘AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN; And I will welcome you.”
How can people ever possibly agree on decisions, policies, parenting, business practices… even life; when they are not looking at things from the same perspective. How can agreement to do things Gods way be reached if God is not the foundation? If we are to be Salt and Light, a preservative of the things of God, but are easily corrupted - then being yoked with an unbeliever is a recipe for disaster.
Additionally think about this… God may choose to bring the unbeliever to their knees, in hopes that they might look to Him for salvation. If you’re yoked together, guess what? You’re along for the ride.
Love you all! Dig in and live it out!
