Good Morning “Prepared for Greater Things.” Today we are in Jeremiah 12.
“…Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease? You have planted them, and they have taken root; they grow and bear fruit. You are always on their lips but far from their hearts.” Jeremiah 12:1-2 NIV
Job wrestled with this question (Job 12:6), as did David (Psalm 37:1-7). I’m guessing at times we all probably have. Now Jeremiah poses the same question to God. Check out Gods answer:
““If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?” Jeremiah 12:5 NIV
What on earth does that mean?
I believe Gods response is simple. God has big plans for those who obey Him (Jeremiah 29:11). But, to be effective tools for Him we must be durable, resilient, steadfast, mature, complete, and able to persevere in all circumstances (James 1:2-5, Romans 5:1-5, 1 Peter 1:6-7). God is simply telling Jeremiah that he must be stronger that those wicked men who seem to prosper according to the worlds standards - which are meaningless. Israel as a whole must be refined through discipline, to become what God intends for her to be! That is more valuable than gold or silver.
In short… God loves us TOO much to let us get caught up in that which is empty, yields nothing for eternity or the kingdom - and ultimately leads to death. He also desires to be glorified through our response during the trial. The Teacher is always hardest on the ones with the most potential. He knows the plans He has for us. He uniquely gifts us for the work ahead and He knows how to get us ready to accomplish it.
The question is, does He have your heart? Are you all in - ready to be stretched, tested, and tried through preparation for what lies ahead? Or… too busy focusing on what others have (Exodus 20:17) - that you blow the test?
Love you all! Dig in!
