Ezekiel 16

Good Morning “Jesus Lovers”.  Today we are in Ezekiel 16.

Chapter 16 is the longest in Ezekiel and in fact the longest single prophecy in Scripture.

Israel deceived, still believes due to His Covenant with them - there is no way God is going to destroy Jerusalem and bring His wrath upon them.  They hang on to the part of Gods promise that says He will bless and restore Israel and somehow they forget the part that requires God to correct their disobedience.  God will not break His Covenant with Israel, including the part where He will not let her continue in Idolatry and rebellion.

This chapter of Ezekiel seems almost R rated.  Understand Gods language here is harsh on purpose.  God uses the comparison of the disloyal wife for a reason.  His Bride Israel is the immoral wife prostituting herself with her idolatry.  Israel would have understood the allegory well, as should we. Few husbands would respond favorably to their wives infidelity in this way.

God loves Israel too much to let her continue in this way.  He loves us too much to let us continue in sin as well.  His Grace is beyond measure.  Hence, The New Covenant with Jesus (John 14:6, Ephesians 2:8-9).  There is expectation we return His love.  We love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).

“Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.””
‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus did not say we are “saved” by keeping His commands. Instead, He was saying that those who are truly “saved” desire to obey Him.  What if believers disobey?

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 (NKJV)

Love you all!  Dig in!
