Good Morning “Inquirers of God.” Today we are in Ezekiel 14.
One might think the elders of Judah, exiled in Babylon might be a little more squared away than those Ezekiel witnessed in Jerusalem. Not… really. In this chapter he gets a visit from 4 elders. They are seeking a Word from the Lord, yet they have already separated themselves from Him because of their idol worship. They have broken their covenant with Him, yet still seek guidance from Him - doesn’t make sense does it. They want the benefits of the relationship, without a relationship.
Gods Word for Ezekiel is a familiar one…
“… Repent! Turn from your idols and renounce all your detestable practices!” Ezekiel 14:6 NIV
He goes on to describe the depth if wrath they will experience, while reminding Ezekiel there will be a remnant of sons and daughters spared.
Regarding the perception that God might be harsh…
“You will be consoled when you see their conduct and their actions, for you will know that I have done nothing in it without cause, declares the Sovereign Lord.” Ezekiel 14:23 NIV
We know His Standard. The New Covenant in Jesus offers salvation to all who will receive His payment made on the cross (John 14:6, John 3:16). The same verse above applies to those who reject His payment and choose to attempt to pay their debt on their own. Their actions prove the justness of His wrath.
(Roman’s 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9)
