Good Morning “Leaders”. Today we are in Ezekiel 11.
These last 4 chapters have given us a progressive picture of God removing His Glory from The Temple and destroying Jerusalem.
In short Gods people wanted nothing to do with Him. In Chapter 8 we saw Ezekiel predicting the end of the city through a 14-month long street performance. In Chapter 9 we learned that the Lord decreed the death of all ungodly in the city, and the glory of God begins to leave the temple. In Chapter 10 the city itself is destroyed by God’s judgment and the glory of God moves from the doorway of the temple, to the east gate of the temple.
The Glory of God found no sanctuary in the Holy of Holies, since the priests that were supposed to serve Him, were worshipping the sun instead. The Glory found no sanctuary in the court because the leaders were worshipping Egyptian gods in its walls. The Glory of God makes one final stop on It’s way out. It seems He’s not wanted anywhere in the city.
In this chapter Ezekiel is carried in a vision by The Spirit to the gate of Jerusalem to witness the depth of their sin. Ezekiel sees a group of 25 men, leaders among them, not priests or officials but peer leaders. These men were to give Godly advice to the people, help keep them on track. Instead they saw opportunity to capitalize on their position. God through Jeremiah had given clear instructions, don’t resist the Babylonians, (Jeremiah 21:8-10), when taken into captivity build houses, make the best of it (Jeremiah 29:4-7) - your life will be your reward. These men twisted it all, and counseled the opposite - hence their elaborate description of the meat in the pot. We’re all leading someone… the question is, what are we leading them into? Better be in line with God and His Word! Gotta know IT to Live by It! God sets em straight… turning their analogy on its head! The Truth always dispels lies!
Restoration will one day come to the faithful. But, to the Godless - destruction. Ezekiel is to carry this message back to the Exiles in Babylon.
Love you all! Dig in!
