Lamentations 3

Good Morning “Way Examiners”.  Today we are in Lamentations 3.

“We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will.”
‭‭John‬ ‭9‬:‭31‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The unrepentant heart is like the child who throws a fit to get something.  Every parent knows you don’t give the disobedient child what he wants.  No reason then for him / her to ever “straighten up”.  A positive reaction to negative behavior - will never produce positive behavior.

Hence our sin separates us from God.  Without repentance we put distance in the relationship.  When we make Him our enemy, (James 4:4) we no longer experience the “blessing” of a relationship with The Almighty God.

“I have been deprived of peace; I have forgotten what prosperity is.”
‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me.”
‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3‬:‭19‬-‭20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Is Jeremiah is lamenting due to the suffering he’s experiencing because of his rejection by the people?  Or is he sharing in the suffering of those he loves and was called to?  

One thing is sure, God doesn’t leave us… we leave Him (Genesis 3:8, Hebrews 13:5)

In the midst of what seems like Jeremiah’s hope-less Lamentations we find hope.  

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;”
‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3‬:‭22‬-‭23‬, ‭25‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We sing a song founded in this passage.  Come on, sing with me - you know the words.  “Great is thy faithfulness, great is thy faithfulness, morning by morning, new mercies I see…”  
Have you ever considered the context?  Judah is literally decimated… and these are Jeremiah’s words.  You see he gets It!  With confession and repentance comes restoration (1 John 1:9).
