Good Morning “Never Forsakers.” Today we are in Jeremiah 22.
“… Why has the Lord done such a thing to this great city?’ And the answer will be: ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God and have worshiped and served other gods.’ ””
Jeremiah 22:8-9 NIV
Judah in the process of forsaking their covenant with The Lord, rejected His Word. In fact rejecting His Word is part of it - one and the same to forsaking their Covenant. Honoring their covenant in fact required obedience to Gods Word. Why? Because obedience to Gods Word is not only best, but essential to right living. Apart from it continually leading, checking us up and keeping us on track we revert to our own fleshly, selfish desires and everything goes south (Psalm 119:9-11, 119:105, Romans 12:2).
“Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, his upper rooms by injustice, making his own people work for nothing, not paying them for their labor.”
Jeremiah 22:13 NIV
We’ve often said the first consequence of sin is more sin. One sin leads to another. Consider Sodom and Gomorra for instance. Why did God destroy them? Sexual sin? Ultimately yes, that was part of it… but check out Ezekiel 16:48-50. As God through Ezekiel is calling out the atrocious sin of Jerusalem, He refers to the sin of Sodom and Gomorra. Note the sins He refers to. Ultimately sexual, specifically homosexual sin was part of the reason for their destruction, but that’s not where it began.
Oh that we could learn this lesson and simply never forsake Gods Word. We won’t find ourselves at the end of the wide road, if we never turn down it (Matthew 7:13-14).
Love you all! Dig in!
