Good Morning “Life Choosers”. Today we are in Jeremiah 21.
“Furthermore, tell the people, ‘This is what the Lord says: See, I am setting before you the way of life and the way of death.”
Jeremiah 21:8 NIV
Many mistakenly believe the God of The Old Testament to be an angry merciless God that only brings judgment. At the same time, New Testament Jesus only brings mercy, grace and salvation - no judgment. God doesn’t change (Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8). Jesus Himself said He came to bring the sword not peace (Matthew 10:34-36). Maybe you’ve read the Book of Revelation?
In today’s chapter God begins to spell out the judgment coming to Judah through Babylon. Even in it, He displays mercy… don’t miss it. “I am setting before you the way of life…”. In that passage God is actually harkening back to the terms of His covenant with Israel soon after He got them out of Egypt. Check it out in Deuteronomy 30:11-20. Within those verses we find the same language “Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach.” “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live”. Deuteronomy 30:11, 19 NIV
It was by their choice that Judah was about to face Judgment. We too have a choice… choose life, that you might live (Romans 6 with emphasis on Romans 6:23).
