Jeremiah 19

Good Morning “Life Respect-ers”.  Today we are in Jeremiah 19.

I’ve heard some ridiculous stuff floating around our world lately.  Chief among them is the absolute lie that God accepted even requested child sacrifice in The Bible.

First, God created us in His image, male and female (Genesis 1:27).  He declared that anyone who murders shall be put to death (Genesis 9:6, Exodus 21:23).  Furthermore go back and read  Exodus 21:22 - that demand extends to the unborn with no distinction given as to when it’s considered “viable”. In fact Psalm 139:16-19 makes clear, God divides the cells, “knits us together”, in the womb, and ordains our days before there was one of them.  The “viable” argument is mute in Gods eyes.  Doesn’t matter, life begins at conception - period!  Even science testifies to that fact.

Many argue with a very Biblically illiterate view of God commanding Abraham to sacrifice Issac.  Let’s address it.  Abraham, although willing to obey at all costs, knew better than to assume that God would allow him to follow through (Genesis 22:8).  Furthermore he reasoned that IF he did follow through, God would raise Isaac (Hebrews 11:19).

In today’s chapter we see Gods judgment on Israel / Judah linked specifically to child sacrifice, and His clear declaration that doing such never “entered His mind”.
“They have built the high places of Baal to burn their children in the fire as offerings to Baal—something I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind.” Jeremiah‬ ‭19‬:‭5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The statement “nor did it enter my mind”, seems to insinuate that the practice is so disgusting to Him, that the depth his people could sink to “surprised” even Him.  (Obviously God cannot be surprised for He is all knowing).  Review Leviticus 18:21, 20:2, Deuteronomy 12:31, Psalm 106:37-38 for more support.

So why did they do it?  Why were they sacrificing their children to Molech, to Baal?  Often they sacrificed their infants to Molech out of desperation, financial struggle was among them.  They believed Molech could bring them prosperity, they sought his favor.  Baal among other things was a god of fertility.  Baal worship was often sensual and involved elicit sex encounters.  Baby’s, and resulting  baby’s born through such, were often sacrificed. Worship, convenience (especially for temple prostitutes), finances, living situations were among the justifications.

Satan is not creative.  His methods of deception do not change.  Human nature is still sinful and does not change.  Thus, history repeats its self.

Satan has long mimicked Jesus and continues. “…Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭11‬:‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬  He suggested to Adam and Eve they will be “like God” when they eat the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3:5).

Jesus said “This is my body” (Luke 22:19).  He lays it down freely, and will take it up again of His own accord (John 10:17-18). Put it together, what was Jesus saying? “My body, My choice.”

Wait a minute… I think I’ve heard that somewhere else.

Love you all!  Dig in!
