Jeremiah 17

Good Morning “Jesus Talkers”.  Today we are in Jeremiah 17.

The “Self Help” movement is huge.  You know, “self care”, “self love”, “self actualization”, and among them “self talk”.  Self talk… you know the kind of “self encouragement”, that builds us up, hypes us up, helps convince us that it’s all within us to accomplish anything and everything. So how’s your “Self Talk” game?

Here are the top “Googled” “Self Talk” examples:
- “I am capable and competent, and I believe in my abilities."

- “I am strong, capable, and confident."

- “I radiate confidence and courage."

- “I have the power to create a positive and fulfilling life."  (That’s my favorite)

- “I am proud of myself for even daring to try."

Jeremiah tells us exactly what is accomplished from this movement.

“This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Never forget our enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for who he may devour (1 Peter 5:8).  His goal is to seek, kill and destroy (John 10:10)!  He’s running free and from the first sin in The Garden he’s been attempting to turn Gods Truth upside down.  Many buy it, and  believe and live  out the opposite of Gods Truth.  Consider the effectiveness of Satan’s strategy.  If he can get us to believe the power to accomplish anything is all within ourselves, imagine the devastation when we fail.  We really aren’t strong enough… good enough.  I know, I need more “Self Talk”, “Self Care”.  When that doesn’t work… aggression comes out, and depression sets in!  I’m failing at life!  Yup, without Jesus - YES!

Truth is we were never meant to do anything on our own power.  Referring to the incredible challenges of ministry consider Paul’s Words:  “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Jeremiah gives us the alternative to the worlds thinking as well:
““But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”” Jeremiah‬ ‭17‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We must remember that Jesus is always the answer, the key, the power, the strength we need!  Seek Him first, always (Matthew 6:33).  The Right question is what does He say? Not what does your heart tell you…

“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” Jeremiah‬ ‭17‬:‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Love you all!  Dig in!
