Jeremiah 16

Good Morning “Generational Sin Breakers.”  Today we are in Jeremiah 16.

Speaking of Israel’s impending time of judgment God instructs Jeremiah

““When you tell these people all this and they ask you, ‘Why has the Lord decreed such a great disaster against us? What wrong have we done? What sin have we committed against the Lord our God?’ then say to them, ‘It is because your ancestors forsook me,’ declares the Lord, ‘and followed other gods and served and worshiped them. They forsook me and did not keep my law.  Jeremiah 16:10-11 NIV

Wait that hardly seems right.  Why should a people be judged for the sins of their ancestors?  Check it out… it doesn’t stop there.  We all become a little like our parents, and grandparents whether we want to admit it or not.  Furthermore we are conformed to the world around us… we become like “them”. It’s why Paul warns the Romans (and us) to stop conforming (Romans 12:2).

But you have behaved more wickedly than your ancestors. See how all of you are following the stubbornness of your evil hearts instead of obeying me.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭16‬:‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Their ancestors may have started the cycle, but they repeated it - kept it going.  One of the first consequences of sin is more sin - ours and often those watching.  It’s contagious (1 Corinthians 15:33).

Break the cycle.  Be led by The Word of God taught by The Spirit of God.  It’s ok to be different… in fact it’s commanded (John 15:18-19, Romans 12:1-2, 2 Peter 2:9- , 1 John 2:15-17)

Someone is always watching.  We’re all leading someone… the question is, where are we leading them?

Love you all!  Dig in!
