Jeremiah 14

Good Morning “Bereans”.  Today we are in Jeremiah 14.

“But I said, “Alas, Sovereign Lord! The prophets keep telling them, ‘You will not see the sword or suffer famine. Indeed, I will give you lasting peace in this place.’ ”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭14‬:‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What is Jeremiah actually saying?  What is his defense for the nation?  “But Lord, it’s the prophets.  They are telling the people it’s ok.”

By watering down Gods Nature, His Justice, His Character that demands He deal with sin - the people continue in their sin assured everything will be ok.

God makes it clear… these prophets are NOT speaking on His behalf.
“Then the Lord said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They dr are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds.” Jeremiah‬ ‭14‬:‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Read on in verse 15 to see the fate of the false prophet’s.  But what about the people?  Do they get a pass - given the teaching of the prophets?  Check verse 16.

God expected His people to know and live according to The Law and His Word.  He expected them to know it so well that they didn’t “buy the lies”.  The same expectation exists for us today.  Consider the Berean Jews (Acts 17:11).  They took what they were taught and compared it with The Word of God.

Even the most devout Bible Scholars can be deceived, make mistakes - and get it wrong.  “But that’s what I was taught”, is no excuse.  God expects us to know The Word, and to search The Word - to make sure we are learning Gods Truth, not man’s “truth”.

Love you all!  Dig in!
