Proverbs 28

Good Morning “Tremblers”.  Today we are in Proverbs 28.

We’ve talked at length regarding fear of The Lord and its power to keep us on track.  A healthy fear of The Lord recognizes His Holiness, His expectation of the same from His people, and His power to bring correction and discipline in its absence (Hebrews 12:4).  That ought to deter us from sin.

Despite the clear meanings of the original words that come into our language as “fear”; OT Hebrew (Yare) and NT Greek (Phobeo), some would argue fear does not mean REAL FEAR - but rather simply respect, standing in awe.  Yes, those things too… but God through Solomon makes it clear what is meant as He uses the word (pachad) here in verse 14.  It comes into our language as “tremble”, or “reverence”.  It literally means “dread, fear, afraid, terrified, tremble, come in dread, come trembling”.

“Blessed is the one who always trembles before God, but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.” Proverbs‬ ‭28‬:‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Blessed is the natural consequence of living according to The Word of God (Joshua 1:8, Matthew 6:33). Not as in made wealthy, or famous, but as in content, satisfied, really all of the Fruit of The Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).  Solomon warns us  NOT to become hardened to The Holy Spirits conviction, lest we continue down a destructive path. In other words… reject the benevolent grandfather in the sky idea that God only ever grants us rainbows and bunnies. Acknowledge The God of The Bible for ALL He is and do not accept any other.

May we never forget God is Just.  He is Holy and Righteous and expects we purpose to be the same (Romans 12:1-2).  Through Jesus we are no longer in bondage to sin… (Romans 6:18).  May we never be content with Sunday morning, Wednesday night, T-Shirt, bumper sticker, I’m not as bad as the next guy Christianity.  Our model is Jesus!

He offers way more, and it’s ALL Good!  Love you all!  Dig in!
