Good Morning “God Trusters - With All of Your Heart.” Today we are in Proverbs 3.
I love Proverbs - how about you? There is so much here - I could go a number of directions.
Solomon gives us a clear reason as to why wisdom is to be valued, hunted for like treasure as we’ve already discussed…
“My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Proverbs 3:1-2 NIV
This whole God thing… what’s in it for me? Living by the Word (Commands) of God will prolong your life, and bring you peace and prosperity (Joshua 1:8)! Bam! Gods Word is logical! Seems silly to oppose it! Take just the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20) and consider Solomon’s claims here. It’s not hard to see how living by God’s Word can help you avoid a swift end to your life. Living in such as way as to bless others before yourself… wins you favor, (brings peace). Ultimately as we seek The Lord through His Word we find ultimate Peace and Ultimate Prosperity… through Savior Jesus - for all eternity (John 3:16).
Seeing and trusting past ourselves is contrary to human nature. This kind of thinking makes no sense to a lost or seeking world (1 Corinthians 2:14). Don’t get sucked in! Solomon acknowledges the readers confusion and continues as he urges…
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.” Proverbs 3:5-7 NIV
We don’t need to understand, only trust Jesus. If we will submit to Him in everything (by His Word) He will make our path straight. The Creator, Provider, Sustainer, Savior knows best how to navigate through life… AND It’s not a secret! He’s made The Way known to us through His Word.
I love verse 7. I believe it carries more than a command. True “fear” of The Lord naturally brings with it a commitment to His Word, which brings an understanding of and an ability to recognize evil and furthermore claim Jesus defeat over it (Colossians 2:15, 1 John 4:4, James 4:7). Hence “fear The Lord”, and then you are able to “shun evil”.
Love you all! Dig in! Every verse is applicable.
