Psalm 134

Good Morning “Tireless Servants.”  Today we are in Psalm 134.

“Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord who minister by night in the house of the Lord.” Psalms‬ ‭134‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The Temple was open 24/7 for worship (1 Chronicles 9:33).  As the Psalmist makes his Ascent on Jerusalem he is thankful that as he arrives there will be those there doing ministry, there will be song and worship.  I wonder if the Levites ever grumbled, got “burned out”, became weary.  I wonder if they put the “new guy” on the night shift.

I bet they missed the blessing of being able to serve  in the temple during their 70 years in Babylonian exile.  It sure seems that way as we read their lament found in Psalm 137.  As their captors demanded that they sing songs of joy… “How can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land?” Psalms‬ ‭137‬:‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Therein lies our challenge for today.  It’s not just those of us in “full time” ministry that have been given work to do.  It’s not just us that serve.  Each one in Christ has been given good work to do.  It’s why He created us.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“… He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us…” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭19‬-‭20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The God of all creation has given us the greatest job in the world, there is no work more important!  The privilege of serving The Lord is a gift of grace provided through the finished work of Jesus on The Cross.  It’s a privilege, not a burden, a blessing not a curse.  May we always count it as such.

Furthermore; He promises the needed strength in it when we become weary (Isaiah 40:31, Matthew 11:28).

Fruit will come…
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Love you all!  Dig in!
