Good Morning “God Fearing.” Today we are in Psalm 128
Ok, here we go again with a God fearing Psalm. Tough to miss it in this one. The Psalmist draws a direct link between fearing The Lord and receiving blessing. “Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him.”
Psalms 128:1 NIV
Let’s break it down simply… creation echos His name so that we are without an excuse (Romans 1). Recognizing He controls it ALL ought cause us to tremble. Fearing The Lord drives us to seek and know Him and His expectations (Jeremiah 29:13). It should cause us to dive into His Word. His word alone promises more blessing (Joshua 1:8). We should find ourselves in a place where we realize we absolutely cannot meet His standard of perfection. (Romans 3:10-12, Romans 3:23). Hence we recognize we need a Savior (Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-10), repent of our sin and follow Him (Romans 10:9, John 1:12). There is no longer condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). We get to spent the rest of FOREVER with Him, here and in heaven.
As His children, who experience the blessing of salvation, The Holy Spirit takes up residence in us - He dwells in us (Romans 8:9-11). He is our teacher (John 14:26), He guides us and convicts us when we get off track, He gives comfort peace and strength (John 16:13), and… we get the “Fruit of The Spirit” (Galatians 5:22-23). He shapes us into the likeness of Jesus (Philippians 1:6). As we walk in obedience to His Word we obey His commands… at least at first, because we fear His discipline (Hebrews 12:4-11). Our Father loves us, and every loving father disciplines his children. Praise God He doesn’t just let us run wild. That discipline keeps us on track and away from consequences that are more than we can bear. Later as we grow we obey out of love.
Frankly I could go on and on. Dig in and consider all the other ways you’re blessed. It all began with fearing The Lord.
Love you all!
