Psalm 114

Good Morning “Always Jesus Choosers”.  Today we are in Psalm 114.

When you think of sanctuary what do you think of?  Most of us may think of the place in our church where we worship God.  The Psalmist in today’s Psalm states “Judah became God’s sanctuary, Israel his dominion.” Psalms‬ ‭114‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

If we were talking about the place where we worship, why would Judah be declared Gods sanctuary?  After all, the tribe of Levi was the tribe chosen to handle the things of worship both in the Tabernacle and later in the Jerusalem Temple.

Lately we’ve heard alot in the news about “sanctuary” cities.  Totally different meaning right?  So what is the Psalmist getting at?  How about - The line of Jesus will be preserved through the tribe of Judah.  The tribe of Judah serves as a “placeholder” for all of Israel, “Israel His dominion” vs 1.  Super cool right?

The Psalmist makes references related to God binging Israel out of Egypt and His protection of them during their wandering.  You remember when God parted the Red Sea, held back The Jordan, the mountains shook, He and brought water from the rock?  These are mentioned after the statement about Judah - the line of Jesus.

Jacob prophesied about Jesus coming through the line of Judah 400 years prior to Exodus (Genesis 49:10).  So why put these events together here?  I believe 1 Corinthians 10:1-5 provides the answer.

See if you can put it all together.  Love you all!  Dig in!
