Good Morning “Purified by Fire”. Today we are in Job 10.
Job continues to lament, wishing he was never born, or perished at birth. I’m not sure I could keep my head as much as Job has. We’re generally a pretty soft people these days. Job obviously wasn’t.
Sometimes as parents we must allow our kids to go through the tough stuff. We can’t and shouldn’t protect them from EVERYTHING or they will grow up not being able to handle ANYTHING. We take no pleasure in allowing our children to go through even a little suffering. It’s hard… we want to come to their rescue. Good parents understand that James 1 applies to their kids as well.
Get a load of Jobs question…
“Does it please you to oppress me, to spurn the work of your hands, while you smile on the plans of the wicked? Job 10:3
Doesn’t it echo of a child being disciplined by his father. Who among us considering dad’s belt, has not thought… “You love this don’t you.” Yet, as parents we know, “This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you” - could not be a more true statement.
Speaking to suffering Jeremiah says this, “For no one is cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love.” Lamentations 3:31-32 NIV
Suffering isn’t demonstration that God lacks compassion. On the contrary, because suffering grows us, and matures us, it demonstrates the depth of our Fathers love. It’s a love willing to subject us to that which makes us strong. It’s a deeper love that sees the end product rather than choosing momentary comfort which results in immaturity and weakness (James 1:2-6).
Even Jesus was perfected in His humanity through the suffering He endured so that He might be our High Priest… One who understands what we are going through (Hebrews 4:15-16).
“Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 5:8-10 NIV
Love you all! Dig in!
