Good Morning “Discerning Counsel Carefully.” Today we are in Job 4.
For 7 days Jobs friends sat with him in silence but couldn’t bring themselves to say a word. Once they could - it got worse.
Eliphaz begins to speak with what he seems to believe is wisdom (1 Corinthians 3:18). Interestingly though… the words are not his own. “A word was secretly brought to me, my ears caught a whisper of it. Amid disquieting dreams in the night, when deep sleep falls on people, fear and trembling seized me and made all my bones shake. A spirit glided past my face, and the hair on my body stood on end.”
Job 4:12-15 NIV
Disquieting dreams, trembling, a spirit past his face… any guesses who this is? The evil one is bent on destroying Job and us, and it’s not beyond him to use our friends. Check it out though, the pieces and parts of Gods Laws of Truth he uses aren’t necessary false. He simply applies them to Job frivolously and incorrectly. He twists them into a negative light. Sounds familiar doesn’t it?
You see if Satan can’t get us to reject God’s Word completely he’ll simply convince us to follow God’s Word incompletely or incorrectly! Both tactics keep people from a saving relationship with the Lord through His Son, Jesus. It also keeps followers of Jesus from being effective witnesses and counselors to the lost and hurting.
It shouldn’t surprise us there are those among us that will fall victim to this tactic. It shouldn’t surprise us there are those used in this manner. Paul warned us of such in his 2nd letter to Timothy - 2 Timothy 3:12-17. I encourage you to check it out.
I personally don’t want to be deceived by those who would twist The Word, nor do I want to be used as such a tool in someone else’s life. How about you? But… How can anyone possibly defend against such tactics. Paul includes the answer in his charge to Timothy above.
We must know the Word for ourselves! You cannot recognize this sort of attack otherwise.
Love you all! Dig in!
