Good Morning “Bound in Covenant With God.” Today we are in Nehemiah 9.
Man what a prayer! If you haven’t already, you must read this chapter in its entirety.
Their prayer of confession begins with Praise and Honor as should ours. Our God is worthy (Psalm 145:3). It is a prayer of confession from the depths of their heart (1 John 1:9). They recount Israel’s history all the way back to Abram, noting Gods incredible faithfulness - even in the midst of their sin. They remember His many miracles as should we. Never forget all that He has done!
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 NIV
Their prayer demonstrates an acceptance and understanding of Gods need to discipline them. There is no foot stomping, door slamming attitude in the midst of it. They recognize even in His discipline His love is on display.
“…My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” Hebrews 12:5-6
They renew their Covenant with The Lord. Oh that we might be as broken over our sin. That we might be careful to remember all that He’s done, His grace and mercy. Oh that we might shout out our words of praise as they did as we return fully to Him. Shout it from the rooftops!
“My mouth will speak in praise of the LORD. Let every creature praise his holy name for ever and ever.” Psalm 145:21
