Good Morning “Unwavering Hearts.” Today we are in 2 Chronicles 14.
Asa is King! “Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God.” 2 Chronicles 14:2 NIV
There is a new sheriff (King) in town and he aims to clean up Judah. “He removed the foreign altars and the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles.”
2 Chronicles 14:3 NIV
There is hope for Judah once again. We’ve seen this trend before - our hearts rejoice. Look at the very next verse though. “He commanded Judah to seek the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and to obey his laws and commands.” 2 Chronicles 14:4 NIV
You gotta love Asa’s heart but as we’ve seen in our own society, apart from a real, internal heart fear of the Law Giver - Laws never keep people from doing anything. I gotta wonder where Judahs hearts really were in these moments - time will tell as we continue to read on.
However… consider this; just as legislating obedience and worship is often a fruitless endeavor, the opposite is also true. For the one who loves the Lord and is fully committed to Him… little can be done to stop them! Consider the Disciples when facing death for talking about Jesus…
“Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.””
Acts 4:18-20 NIV
Is that your heart? Love you all! Dig in!
