Ruth 4

Good Morning “Redeemed by The Kinsman.”  Today we are in Ruth 4.

What a picture we see here in chapter 4.  The story of Ruth and her “Guardian or Kinsman Redeemer”  is a beautiful picture of something much bigger.  The Kinsman was simply the next closest male relative to the widowed woman’s husband.  In the event she had no son to care for her and to carry on the late husbands name, it was his responsibility to take her as his own wife and to provide her a son to do just that.

Boaz, clearly sees the value in Ruth to be more than the value in their land.  He wants to redeem her, but he is not the closest relative.  There is one in line before him.  In the correct fashion, before the elders, he presents the case to the “first in line”, being careful not to miss any details.  He includes the valuable land and the Kinsman jumps at it.  Boaz elaborates further; the deal also includes Ruth… the Moabite (despised) woman.  The kinsman bails on a technicality.  He’s worried that being yoked to a woman from Moab might endanger his own inheritance.

Boaz willingly redeems Ruth and provides her a son.  The son Obed will later become the father of Jesse, who becomes the father of David.  We all know who comes from the line of David.

Remember this is all taking place during the time of Judges.  When everyone was doing what was “right in their own eyes”.  In the midst of that time we have the story of Boaz and Ruth doing what was right in Gods eyes!

We as Gentiles are much like Ruth.  NOT the original chosen people of God.  Jesus is our Kinsman or Guardian redeemer.  Because of Jesus we have life!  He sees past who we were and are and realizes our value in Him.  Praise the Lord He sees past the surface.  He already chose you - choose Him!

Love you all!  Dig in!
