Judges 8

Good Morning “Trophy Winners.”  Today we are in Judges 8.

We live in a “everyone gets a trophy” world.  Have you ever stopped to think… Why do we desire awards and trophy’s so much?  Why do we want our kids to get them?  They make a statement don’t they?  I accomplished something!  I attained something!  I am somebody!  You are somebody… but somebody in Christ, not in your accomplishments.

They really don’t serve much of a purpose really, unless we put them on display for others to see.  When we do, even if just for a moment, the focus is turned to us.  For a moment we get the glory.  Any skill or talent we have comes from Him, so why do we take the glory?  (1 Corinthians 4:7-8)

Gideon the Might Warrior!  Once a fearful coward, now bold and empowered!  A hero!  ALL by Gods hand!!! How quickly he forgets.  He commands the nation to each bring an ear ring from the plunder they took from the Ishmaelites.  He melts them down and makes an impressive golden ephod and sets it up in a permanent location for all to see.  They begin to worship it as an idol.

Now, there is definitely nothing wrong with being successful.  After all, any success comes from God.  But, when that becomes our focus, it soon becomes our worship.  The problem is, what we’re worshiping. Past, success, ourselves.  See the problem?

I’m not saying we shouldn’t display our kiddos trophy’s.  But I am saying we should recognize and acknowledge they really belong to God!  For it is only through God, and by God we even breathe.  Truly our trophy should read, 1st Place… by the hand of God.

Love you all!  Dig in!  Worship Him, not ourselves!  You are someone in Jesus!
