Deuteronomy 9

Good Morning “Blessed, but not Because of Righteous Deeds.”   Today we are in Deuteronomy 9

Critics of Scripture and Israel love to take lesser known texts such as these and argue that God, or often Israel, was/is nation bloodthirsty land thieves taking advantage of weaker nations.  That same argument continues to this day.  Yet another reason for us to be students of Scripture.

Gods language is clear through Moses… the people of Canaan were evil and worthy of judgment.  (Gen 15:16). He gave them hundreds of years to repent.  They were STRONG!  In no way were they physically disadvantaged, however; God was about to judge these peoples by driving them out.  Israel was just the tool.

God, through Moses makes it perfectly clear… God is not giving Israel this land because of their righteousness.  They did not somehow earn it as reward!  In fact it’s the opposite.  They have been a stiff necked people, rebelling against The Lord over and over.  They simply were chosen.  Again, Moses reminds them of their sin in hopes things will be different.

What does this have to do with us?  EVERYTHING!  We like Israel are in no way deserving of the mercy and grace of God - we simply were chosen.  (John 6:44) We did not somehow earn the blessing we enjoy while here on earth.  Salvation through Jesus, and the promise we have; sharing in the inheritance of Jesus in Heaven, for all of eternity - is not something we earned!  It’s only by His grace that we have been saved… NOTHING we have done!  (Eph. 2:8-9)

”Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,“
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Love you all!  Dig in!  Know and live His Word.
